Trio Karénine

France's Trio Karénine records for the Mirare label and performs in top chamber music halls. The group has a strong commitment to contemporary music and has performed several world premieres. Trio Karénine was founded in Paris in 2009 by three friends and recent French music school graduates, violinist Fanny Robilliard, cellist Louis Rodde, and pianist Paloma Kouider. Robilliard was later replaced by Charlotte Juillard. The group, in its own words, "bears the name of Tolstoy's beautiful and emotionally honest heroine." Trio Karénine studied with various top chamber music artists, including the Ysaÿe Quartet, pianist Menahem Pressler, and the Wanderer Trio, making rapid progress, Trio Karénine won several prizes, including, in 2013, the prestigious ARD International Competition in Munich and the Charles Hennen International Chamber Music Competition in the Netherlands. The group was soon signed to Mirare and released its debut album, featuring Schumann's two piano trios, in 2016. Trio Karénine has appeared in many of the world's renowned chamber music halls, such as Wigmore Hall in London, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, and the Frick Collection in New York, as well as top Parisian venues, including the Louvre Museum. The group has collaborated with clarinetist Raphaël Sévère and violists Adrien La Marca and Hélène Clément, among other chamber music players. Trio Karénine often performs contemporary music by the like of Wolfgang Rihm, Hans-Werner Henze, and Philippe Hersant; it is the dedicatee of the piano trio Les Allées Sombres by Benoit Menut and a Triple Concerto by the same composer. Trio Karénine has recorded five albums as of 2023, including an album of trios by Josef Suk and Antonín Dvořák that year. The group has received financial support from influential French funders the Académie de Villecroze, the Culture et Musique Fondation under the auspices of the Fondation de France, and the Fondation Banque Populaire, as well as a scholarship from the Festival Musique et Vins au Clos Vougeot.
