Tay Iwar
Nigerian singer, producer, and sound engineer Tay Iwar is known for his vibrant brand of Afro-fusion, drawing upon classic Afrobeat, hip-hop, and alternative R&B. Iwar was still only in his teens when he released his first albums, including 2016's Renascentia. He rose to wider fame with 2019's Gemini and in 2021 released his Love & Isolation EP.
Iwar grew up in Abuja, Nigeria, where he took piano lessons in his youth and played guitar. He eventually taught himself how to produce music on his computer and by his teens was recording with his brothers in the band Bantu Collective. In 2014, at age 16, he released his debut solo album, Passport, and returned in 2016 with his sophomore LP, Renascentia. Two more albums arrived in 2019 with Gold and Gemini, the latter of which featured collaborations with Nigerian alté artists Santi, Preye, and Odunsi the Engine. Iwar gained yet wider attention in 2020 guesting on Wizkid's song "True Love." He returned to his solo work in 2021 with the Love & Isolation EP.
