Retch

Born Brian Onfroy, Jr., New Jersey rapper RetcH, aka Retchy P, developed his dark, relentless, and often apocalyptic style over a series of self-released mixtapes throughout the 2010s. Earlier efforts like 4 LaRaza and Delinquents & Degenerates (both released in 2012) were rawer productions but featured cameos from what would become long-term collaborators like Da$H and KOOL. A 2013 appearance on Action Bronson's track "Flip Ya" followed, as did more mixtapes, but it was the bleak, trap-flavored 2015 mixtape Lean & Neck that caught the attention of producers and performers higher up in the rap industry. Still unsigned, RetcH worked with Mac Miller and there were multiple industry rumors (some stirred up by RetcH himself) about the rapper inking a deal with Top Dawg Entertainment, the management team that has represented enormous rap talents such as Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q. In March of 2016, RetcH was arrested for armed robbery. It was his 13th arrest in the state of New Jersey, and though he was released on bail, the crime threatened decades of jail time if he was found guilty. He was released in October 2017, and quickly issued the single "First Day Home," rapping about his return to public life. A month later, he issued the eight-song Still Up. Another EP, After the Verdict, arrived in 2018, followed in 2019 by the mixtape Richer Than the Opps. Also that year, he again collaborated with with ScHoolboy Q for the track "On Me."
