Optic Nerve

House and techno DJ/producer Patrick Scott – born in Detroit, Michigan – is better known by his stage name Scott Grooves. When he was younger, he was encouraged by his jazz-musician father to learn to play keyboards, guitar, and drums. Initially studying jazz, he began working at Record Time, a record store in Detroit that specialized in techno and house music. Inspired by the music he heard in the store, he began producing his own house music. He befriended producer and songwriter Kevin Saunderson and played keyboards for Saunderson’s band Inner City. Working under the name Scott Grooves, he submitted a demo to Soma Records and was signed to the label shortly afterwards. His first single, “A New Day”, was released in 1997. He collaborated with Roy Ayers on the single “Expansions”, which was featured on Scott Grooves’ debut album Pieces of a Dream (1998). He then released a series of singles on various labels before issuing his second album, The Journey Collection, in 2005. He has continued to work independently, releasing albums such as Unreleased Anthology Pt. 1 (2013), Pt. 2 (2014), and Pt. 3 (2016). After releasing a collaboration with Kataconds – Machinik 8 - 17 (2020) – Scott Grooves released the album Machinik 18 – 26 in 2021.
