David Walters

David Walters is a French singer-songwriter, producer, and DJ. He was born in Paris, France, and has roots tracing back to the West Indies of Saint-Kitts and Martinique. David Walters's music is known to blend electronic beats and acoustic folk, influenced by Afro-Caribbean rhythms. He broke into the music scene in 2006 with his debut album Awa, released on the Ya Basta label. The album included the single "Mesi Bon Dyé," which was adapted from a prayer written by Haitian guitarist Frantz Casseus. He followed the album up in 2009 with his sophomore effort Home, which included the participation of artists such as Asa and Arthur H. These releases further bolstered his popularity, leading to him being selected by Canal+ to host the TV program Les Nouveaux Explorateurs in 2011. As the host of the show, David Walters was able to travel globally to meet music enthusiasts across the world. Inspired by his travels, he released the mixtape NeverStopExploring in 2015. After a five-year hiatus focusing on his TV hosting duties, he returned to music with Soleil Kréyol (2020) under the Heavenly Sweetness label, featuring collaborations with artists such as Seun Kuti, Ibrahim Maalouf, Vincent Segal, Marine Thibault, and Célia wa. The album was acclaimed for its fusion of 1970s New York club culture and his own Afro-Caribbean roots. In 2021, David Walters released the meditative Nocturne. Soul Tropical, his sixth studio album, hit the shelves in 2023.
