Henry Rollins, your new tour guide to LA!

The charismatic singer and ex-member of Black Flag appears in a new series of YouTube videos, promoting the city of Los Angeles and its airport...

A roof that needs fixing? A tax problem that needs sorting? An old poker debt to be repayed? It's well known that even old punk rockers will swallow their pride and do some advertising and make some extra cash... This time it's Henry Rollins. At 58 years old, the ex-singer from Black Flag (between 1981 and 1986) was chosen by the LA tourist board to promote the City of Angels.

Rollins is the presenter of a mini-series of short clips that Discover Los Angeles has published on their YouTube channel, sharing tips on how to best use the city's airport: LAX.

Last month, the same Henry Rollins took to the stage in LA to revisit the legendary Rise Above by his old band, in a duet with Cyndi Lauper! Maybe Henry just wants to have fun? The godfather of American hardcore was doing it all for a good cause: it was part of a charity concert Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the Holidays which was raising money for True Colors United, a non-profit organisation which helps young homeless members of the LGBT community.

In the same vein of old punks and advertising, Iggy Pop has been known to be able to take the mickey out of himself in recent years. Just take a look at this insurance advert from 2011:

Yet he seems to be able to have the last laugh, adopting a similarly self-deprecating tone for the trailer of his 2013 album, Ready to Die, released on indie label Fat Possum:
