Penelope Trappes
Penelope Trappes was part of electro-pop duo Lismore and airy synth pop duo the Golden Filter before striking out on her own with more intimate, echo-heavy atmospheres. She debuted with Penelope One in 2017 and was up to Penelope Three by 2021. Trappes formed Lismore with synth programmer Stephen Hindman and released the album We Could Connect or We Could Not in 2005 before briefly performing in the Brisbane-based indie outfit Mazzy Star Meets Leonard Cohen. Newly based in New York City, she then rejoined Hindman to launch synth pop duo the Golden Filter in 2008. Following that project's 2010 debut, Völuspá, they issued a string of demos and EPs, then relocated to London, U.K. in 2016. Their sophomore full-length, Still // Alone, arrived in early 2017. In the meantime, Trappes had begun writing and recording her first solo effort in a piano studio in East London. The completed Penelope One followed later that year on Optimo Music. The Golden Filter officially called it quits, and Trappes returned with Penelope Two on Houndstooth in October 2018. Continuing the pattern of titles and a tendency toward still-darker environments, her third solo full-length saw release on the same label in 2021.© Rob Wacey & Marcy Donelson /TiVo Read more
