Tuxedo takes us back to the future as it was in the 1980s. It's a groovy trip with the ghosts of Chic, Shalamar, Zapp and others from Earth Wind & Fire along for the ride. Tuxedo is the latest name for a duo with some experience under their belts: Mayer Hawthorne and producer Jake One (Rick Ross, Drake, Snoop Dogg). Released on Stones Throw (the label on which Hawthorne also brought out his début album A Strange Arrangement in 2009), this first, self-titled album actually dates back to 2006 when the two men swapped mix tapes. That meeting gave rise to three tracks, which were put on the net a few years later. These three tracks would grow into a real album, mixed by one of the pillars of the disco era, John Morales himself, at his studio in South Plainfield, New Jersey. The result is a joyful retro funk odyssey where hedonism reigns supreme and the dancefloor is on fire with funk trance. One to play under the discoball, in a pink silk gown, champagne flute in hand.
