Grace Petrie

The politically minded singer-songwriter and guitarist Grace Petrie (born 24 July 1987 in Leicester, England) has forged a successful career as a UK folk artist while fearlessly advocating for social justice and LGBTQIA+ rights. She began her professional career in 2006 with the release of her self-titled debut, which was followed in 2007 by her second album Feeling Better. In 2010, her profile was given a boost thanks to Billy Bragg, who invited her to perform on Glastonbury's Leftfield stage. Her breakthrough third album, Tell Me A Story, followed in 2010. Spawning her now signature protest song "Farewell to Welfare," the LP provided a unifying, topical, and damning critique of the UK's newly elected Conservative government. She has since released a slew of like-minded albums, including 2018's Queer as Folk, and 2021's Connectivity, which went to number 37 in the UK. 2024 saw the release of Grace Petrie's hopeful new album Build Something Better, with which she scored her highest position on the UK Albums Chart, landing the number 28 spot.
