In the twilight of the ’70s, as the shrapnel of the punk explosion was still settling, the movement was already inspiring new groups. As New Wave unfurled, the post-punk movement represented a tortured, even radical turn. From pioneers Joy Division and The Fall to current bands Shame and Fontaines D.C., here’s a close-up on the landmark albums that electrified the entire music world and continue to fascinate the rock’n’roll underground.
Warp, the record label which led to the blossoming of some of the most boundary-pushing artists of the electronic music scene, such as Aphex Twin, LFO, Boards of Canada, Autechre, and Squarepusher, now has their catalogue available on Qobuz. Before becoming some kind of punk cabaret Howlin’ Wolf, the character of Tom Waits was born in the form of a songwriter obsessed with jazz, Broadway melodies and Kerouac’s Beat Generation. Between 1973 and 1980, the Californian would record six studio albums and one live album for the Asylum label, recently re-released and re-mastered in Hi-Res 24-Bit.
