Hailed by critics of classical music as well as amateurs of electronic experiences, Nils Frahm’s talent has managed to get everyone to agree for the last ten years. Whether he plays on a church organ or a synthesiser fitted with effect pedals, the German pianist is always looking forward, and that’s what makes him so appealing.
No one ever sounded like Daniel Johnston. The little known depressive artist found fame thanks to his peers’ recognition. He passed away on September 11th, 2019, at the age of 58; his discography has slowly become the symbol of naïve, lo-fi and hyper-emotional music. It’s never too late to (re)discover this bona fide underground genius, and his heartfelt, authentic music.
“If punk was about getting rid of hippies, then I'm getting rid of grunge.” It was with this sentence from Damon Albarn in 1993 that England invaded the stage previously dominated by Nirvana and Seattle grunge. Britpop is deeply linked to politics and local identity and emerged just as Tony Blair and New Labour were entering the scene. English romanticism was once again becoming attractive compared to the American identity, which was considered too hollow in the UK. Make way for “Cool Britannia”.
