Recorded in 1982, this anthology of tunes and madrigals by Thomas Morley assembles hand-picked singers including Emma Kirkby, whose slightly acidic voice is a matter of preference, among four sopranos. Composer and organist at Saint Paul’s Cathedral in London, writer and editor, Englishman Thomas Morley is considered as the founder of the English school of madrigal due to the Italian music he published in England which inspires his own compositions. The Consort of Musicke is a group of singers specialising in music from the Renaissance to the early Baroque period. Founded by Anthony Rooley in 1969, the group has completed more than one hundred and twenty recordings over a period of thirty years beginning in 1972. Some have become legendary and then disappeared from the catalogues while others continue to be regularly republished. © François Hudry/Qobuz

In your panoramas...
Steve Reich in 10 Works

Steve Reich belongs to that very small circle of composers who can claim to have changed the face of contemporary music over the last fifty years. Qobuz presents a selection of ten of the most important works from his catalogue.

Max Richter, Neo-classical Activist

With the release of his new album Exile, a reflection on exile with the Baltic Sea Orchestra, the iconoclast and prolific pioneer of the neo-classical movement confirms his status as one of the most ideologically committed artists out there. Melding classical and electronic music, physical and emotional worlds, he produces instrumental works of rare evocative power.

Martha Argerich: The Untameable Pianist

For over 60 years the Argentinian pianist Martha Argerich has amazed audiences all over the world with her wild, impulsive playing and her constant risk-taking, overcoming every technical difficulty by turning each of her performances into a fascinating journey.
