  • Il ne fait aucun doute que les œuvres sacrées de la jeunesse de Mozart – les trois ouvrages ici présentés datent de 1773 à 1777, il avait donc entre dix-sept ans et la vingtaine – se situent dans la droite lignée de celles de Michael Haydn, Kapellmeister à Salzbourg à cette même époque, intense (et très sous-estimé) compositeur de musique d’église. A la vérité, la seule écoute de ces deux messes et de ce Regina coeli ne permettrait pas nécessairement de les attribuer à Mozart, si ce n’est l’aspect parfois théâtral de certaines tournures, en particulier dans les passages pour solistes vocaux. Les parties chorales, elles, obéissent aux habitudes à la cour de Salzbourg, comme par exemple celle de doubler les voix chorales par les trombones (que l’on retrouvera d’ailleurs dans certains moments du Requiem de Mozart)  ; cela dit, la foisonnante écriture contrapuntique du jeune maestro ne facilite pas l’exécution, sans aucun doute ! L’enregistrement fait appel à un chœur de garçons pour les parties de soprano du chœur, tel que c’était encore d’usage ; les frères Haydn, d’ailleurs, firent leurs armes dans un tel ensemble. L’orchestre joue selon les us et coutumes d’exécution de mise à la fin du XVIIIe siècle.

        En complément de programme, on nous propose une œuvre bien plus tardive, la Fantaisie pour orgue écrite en 1790 pour être intégrée au mécanisme d’une sorte de juke-box de l’époque, sous forme de grande boîte à musique destinée à égayer les visiteurs d’une galerie d’art et de figures de cire. Les visiteurs de la galerie n’imaginaient pas qu’ils entendaient là une des œuvres les plus accomplies de Mozart, dont la portée musicale dépasse radicalement le cadre d’un petit zinzin certes décoratif mais à la sonorité riquiqui. L’on rend ici justice à cette pièce en la donnant sur un vrai orgue.
