The Great History of Malian Music

Mandingo traditions or urban intersections, ancestral chants from the griots or dance bands on the day following the Independence, the family tree of Malian music possesses deep roots, leafy branches and a strong sap. Let’s take a look back at the fascinating history.

Verve Records, the sound of America

Norman Granz hit the nail on the head when he defined his label as “the sound of America”. Admittedly, it was last century. And granted, it mainly just stuck to jazz. Dancehall, the "club" version of reggae, was popularised in the mid-1980s by the legendary producer King Jammy with Sleng Teng, the first electronic reggae track in history. Let's take a look at this velvet coup.
