  • On a peine à croire que la majorité des œuvres sur ce CD sont des premières discographiques mondiales. Là où le plus insignifiant navet du bel canto italien a droit à tous les honneurs des grandes stars du gosier, la grande musique symphonique italienne doit attendre parfois un siècle avant d’être timidement enregistrée ! Presque toutes les Impressioni dal vero Impressions de la vie ») n’avaient jamais paru ; voici donc ces étonnantes miniatures écrites entre 1910 et 1922, qui ont très évidemment servi de modèle à Respighi dans ses œuvres symphoniques romaines – pour mémoire, les Pins de Rome et les Fêtes romaines datent de 24 et 27 respectivement… Oui, Malipiero a bien potassé son Debussy, oui, il suit la grande tradition du poème symphonique, et alors ? Sa musique n’en est pas moins puissamment personnelle. Et que dire de son orchestration, inventive et colorée, d’une modernité ébouriffante : splendide.    Les deux Pause del silenzio représentent l’antithèse à la musique de la sphère germanique d’alors ; Malipiero refuse toute idée de développement thématique, préférant le principe de l’évolution organique quasi instinctive, des vignettes mélodiques successives se variant l’une l’autre selon l’humeur. Il en résulte pourtant une musique d’une grande lisibilité. Que le second Pause del silenzio, de 1926, dut attendre 2011 pour se retrouver enfin enregistré, est une aberration. Mais le compositeur lui-même remarquait, considérant le peu de cas que les orchestres faisaient de son œuvre, qu’il pourrait la rebaptiser Silence ininterrompu. Le silence est enfin brisé ! A découvrir d’urgence !
