Paupière

Paupière is a Montreal-based electropop duo. They were formed in 2014 and initially consisted of Pierre-Luc Bégin (of the group We Are Wolves), Eliane Préfontaine, and Julia Daigle. The group began jamming together and exploring songwriting before their first performance, which was at a Halloween party in 2014. Over the course of the following year, they honed their songwriting and live performances while recording their debut EP titled Jeunes Instants, which was released in 2016 and featured the hit single "Cinq Heures." Eliane Préfontaine left the group shortly afterward, making Paupière into a duo. The group is heavily influenced by the sound of "neo-romantic" groups of the 1980s, mixing English synth-pop with French music and creating an interesting mix of sounds. The release of their first full-length album À Jamais Privé de Réponses (2017) increased the group's profile in the Montreal and Quebec music scenes. In 2019, the group released their second EP titled Jettatura, showcasing a further refinement of their sound and displaying the influence of artists such as Depeche Mode and The Human League. Paupière has performed at events such as Osheaga, Francos de Montréal, M pour Montréal, Coup de Coeur Francophone, and FME. Their music has also been featured on TV shows, such as the Netflix show Riverdale. Their second album, Sade Sati, was released in 2021.
