Don’t be afraid if your windows are shaking: That’s just Khruangbin and the dub version of their second studio album Con Todo El Mundo. On the menu: Bass, bass, and more bass. Laura Lee and her 4 strings were already a formidable presence on the 2018 release, here she comes to test the limits on the most powerful subwoofers in the world. It’s not the first time the Texan trio have tried such an exercise: in 2016, they’d revisited People Everywhere in a similar style, then handed the steering wheel to dub artist Vuelo, with great beach-party-esque results. The mix of thaï funk, Iranian harmony and hip-hop rhythms on Hasta El Cielo might see your neighbours knocking on your door – only to ask who the geniuses behind that mystical groove could possibly be, of course. © Alexis Renaudat/Qobuz

Nordic Electronic in 11 Artists

The musicians of Northern Europe have always brought their personal Arctic twist to all genres of music, and the world of electronic music is no exception. Here’s an overview of 11 Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish artists who have taken techno, house, disco and dub towards new horizons.

10 Unsung Heroes of Jamaican Reggae

Behind the huge international success of figures like Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff and Shaggy, Jamaica’s local scene has always been a vibrant one. The sound is constantly changing. One star succeeds another. Here, Qobuz explores 10 local Jamaican reggae heroes who have all too often slipped under the radar.

David Rodigan, the voice of reggae

For forty years, David Rodigan has been the voice of reggae on British radio. Since his early beginnings on BBC Radio London in 1978, this enthusiast has gone well beyond his function of radio presenter, as he went mixing in the clubs and festivals and became a world champion of soundclash, a Jamaican tradition that confronts DJs (the “selectors”) in a disc against disc duel, with the help of a special version of reggae classics called “dubplates”—the artist changing the lyrics to sing the praises of the selector. As he released, in early 2018 his book My Life in Reggae, David Rodigan talks with Qobuz about those secret songs, his trips to Jamaica, his frantic scene play or even his “mystical” meeting with Bob Marley.
