After their unexpected reunion in 2007, the shoegaze giants Lush, Slowdive and Ride were making their comeback. Swervedriver, less well known but just as strongly affected by Britpop, piled on the saturated guitars and pedal effects while making their way through various labels. Now signed with Rock Action, Mogwai’s label, the Swervies are making the new out of the old on Future Ruins. This 2019 release combines shoegaze traditions with a maelstrom of effects and a flood of fuzzy guitars (Mary Winter, Golden Remedy) while creating spaces to breathe with slow tempos and bare instrumentation (Future Ruins, Radio-Silent). © Charlotte Saintoin/Qobuz
