Fabio Biondi & Europa Galante, 30 Years of Freedom

Italian violinist Fabio Biondi – famous especially for his interpretation of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with his orchestra, Europa Galante – refuses to be compartmentalised. We take a look back at the career of a musician blessed with a supple mind and an extraordinary talent for the Baroque violin.

Glenn Gould, Extravaganza

How can I describe – let alone define – this truly one-of-a-kind pianist? As an alien, perhaps. An alien who whisks us away at supersonic speed before slowing down to land on an infinite world where there is time for everything. As a proper manifesto of French romanticism, Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique marked the 19th century as much as Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring impacted the 20th. On December 5th, 1830 the revolutionary work of 27-year-old Hector Berlioz deeply moved the musicians present in the small room of the old academy of music, among whom were Meyerbeer and Liszt, who were impressed by the extraordinary audacity of this piece presented just three years after Beethoven’s death.
