Jacob Fischer Trio

Jazz guitarist Jacob Fischer was born in Denmark in 1967. A self-taught musician, he made his professional debut at the age of 17 when he performed at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival and then went on to work with some of Scandinavia’s finest jazz musicians. He has also accompanied many jazz greats who toured the region including Toots Thielemans, John Abercrombie, Art Farmer, Dick Hyman, Monty Alexander, and many others. In 1992, Jacob Fischer came to prominence when he joined Danish jazz violinist Svend Asmussen’s quartet, which would lead to him working with other jazz combos including the Allan Botschinsky Quintet, the Repertory Quartet, the Christina von Bülow Trio, the Riel & Rockwell Quartet, the Artistry Jazz Group, and more. The guitarist has been the recipient of many awards including the JASA prize (1992), The Ben Webster Prize (1996), and the Django d'or for Jazz Performer of the Year (2001). Over the course of his career, Jacob Fischer has appeared on over 200 releases, including those of his own trio. Formed in 2008, the Jacob Fischer Trio – featuring Janus Templeton (drums) and Hugo Rasmussen (bass) – released their self-titled debut album which included violinist Svend Asmussen on six of the tracks. The trio’s next album, Django (2011), included appearances from accordionist Francesco Cali and guitarist Regin Fuhlendorf. By the time the Jacob Fischer Trio released their next album, My Romance – Tribute to Bill Evans (2013), the new rhythm section featured Martin Wind (bass) and Tim Horner (drums). Their next release, Black Orpheus (2013) found Jacob Fischer and Martin Wind joined by drummer Duduka Da Fonseca. Jacob Fischer has continued to work with other artists as well as releasing solo albums including Blues (2010) and X-Mas Friends (2013).
