Sylvie Proulx
Canadian guitarist Sylvie Proulx earned her bachelor's degree in music at the University of Ottawa, and her master's degree at the University of Toronto. Her principal teachers were Ed Honeywell and Eli Kassner. With assistance from the Canada Council for the Arts, she also studied with David Russell in England. As a recitalist, she has performed across North America and Europe, and she has participated in chamber music and cross-genre performances with Alan Maitland, Jeri Brown, Malcolm Callaway, Gwen Noah, John Mills, and the Penderecki String Quartet. Proulx is based in St. John's, Newfoundland, and teaches guitar at Memorial University's School of Music. Proulx avidly supports new music, and she has given many premiere performances across Canada. For Centaur Records, she has recorded two solo albums: Sirocco, a CD of Latin American guitar music, and Les Tendres Plaintes, a disc of Rameau transcriptions. She also recorded the music of Astor Piazzolla on Tango Nuevo, which was released by Skylark.
