Sarah Chen

Sarah Chen (also known as Chen Shu-hua) is a Taiwanese singer. She was born on May 14, 1958 in Taipei, Taiwan. She started releasing music in the mid-late 1960s, with her first album 水車姑娘/忘也忘不了 coming out in 1967. In the 1970s and 1980s, Sarah Chen released a series of notable albums such as Love Is Her Name (1982) and The Right to Sing (1982). However, she reached the peak of her popularity during the late 1980s and early 1990s, with releases such as The Miracle of Love (1987) and Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow (1988). Sarah Chen achieved great success from her collaborations with songwriter Jonathan Lee, who helped her produce hit songs such as "Awakening Dream" and "Is It Right to Love You?" In 1989, her album Talk to You, Listen to You became the first to reach a million sales in Taiwan. In the 1990s, she went on to release notable albums such as Be Wise, Be Easy (1991), Sarah Chen's Taiwanese Album (1992), and 淑樺盛開 Forever (1995). In 1998, after the unexpected death of her mother, Sarah Chen retired from Taiwan's entertainment scene. Nearly a decade later, her theme song for the 1986 Chinese serial Samsui Women was voted among the Top 5 Theme Songs of the past 25 years in the inaugural Singapore Mediacorp 8 Chinese Drama 25 Years. In the time since her retirement, several of Sarah Chen's songs consistently made it to The Top 1000 Mandarin Hits of All Time by Singapore's UFM100.3.
