Samuel Jean

Samuel Jean is a French conductor and pianist. After studying piano and choral conducting at the Boulogne-Billancourt Conservatory and the Paris Conservatory, he became a vocal coach, choral director, and assistant director in many opera houses. Since 2004, he has also been engaged as an orchestral conductor, though he has specialized in 19th century operas and operettas. His repertoire includes works by Offenbach, Bizet, Massenet, Léhar, Verdi, Poulenc, Bartók, and Bernstein, and his eclectic interests have included collaborations with jazz and pop artists. He is the professor of vocal ensembles at the Paris Conservatory, and he is also the director of the Festival des Pierres Lyrique, though he maintains an active schedule conducting the Orchestre Lyrique de Région Avignon Provence, the Orchestra Lamoureux at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, and the Opera Orchestra of Marseille. He has recorded on the Timpani label as accompanist for soprano Sabine Revault d'Allonnes, in a collection of songs by Massenet and as conductor of the Orchestre Lyrique de Région Avignon Provence in a recording of Bizet's one-act opera, Le Docteur Miracle.
