Rosanne Philippens

Violinist Rosanne Philippens has become an important figure on the Dutch scene and beyond, with critically acclaimed performances and recordings, as well as innovative concert presentation ideas. She is a fixture of the Channel Classics label's recording catalog. Philippens was born in Amsterdam on October 26, 1986. She took up the violin at three. Even before gaining her summa cum laude degree from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, she had already won the Kersjesprijs, a major prize awarded annually to talented young Dutch musicians. Philippens went on to the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin for her master's degree, studying with Ulf Wallin, once again receiving top honors. She made a critically acclaimed appearance with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Strings in March of 2014 under the baton of conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and she has gone on to perform with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and the Stuttgart Philharmonic, among other ensembles. With the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands, she performed Karol Szymanowski's Violin Concerto No. 1 under conductor Xian Zhang. The same forces recorded the concerto along with other Szymanowski works for the Channel Classics label in 2014. Her debut with the label had come the previous year with an album of works by Ravel and Bartók, and she released a Prokofiev recital on Channel Classics in 2017. Philippens plays the "Barrere" Stradivarius violin, formerly played by Janine Jansen, and she often performs violin-and-piano music with pianist Julien Quentin. Philippens has also created "The Amsterdam Salon" concert series, where she and friends perform thematic concerts in an Amsterdam antiques warehouse. She has performed chamber music with Quentin, violinist Vilde Frang, and other top musicians at such venues as the Concertgebouw and the Berlin Philharmonic Hall. Philippens' 2021 appearances included those with the Nörrkoping Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, and Orchestre National de l'Ile de France. Philippens was heard on the Capriccio label in 2021 with pianist Frank Dupree in a recording of Nikolai Kapustin's Double Concerto, and that year, she released an album of works by Haydn and Stravinsky with the Vondel Strings on Channel Classics.
