River Matthews

Surrey native River Matthews fostered his early love of music by learning covers from the songbooks of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and others. His rich, soulful voice was a strong fit for the classic fare, but it wasn't until his mid-twenties that he finally mustered the courage to write some tunes of his own. His first song came in the form of a plea to a lover, which Matthews sang to her in the front seat of his car. Although the creative dam had broken, he didn't write again until that relationship had dissolved once and for all. Recording in a studio he'd helped build for the students at the Park School, a special-needs school where he worked in his hometown of Woking, his material began to take shape. Through a fellow musician, he was introduced to singer, songwriter, and producer Jamie Scott, who signed Matthews to his Catherine Records label and agreed to produce his debut EP. With a U.S. deal also in place via Nettwerk Records, Matthews released the Feels Like Morning EP in early 2016.
