Phora

Marco Archer, a rapper who goes by Phora, is an Anaheim-raised native of Corona, California, who excels at narrative rhymes. His charismatic manner lends a relatable quality to lyrics that, if delivered by less-skilled rappers, would probably not resonate with most listeners foreign to his perspective. (He has survived a stabbing and two shootings.) Beginning his career in 2011, he broke through with his fourth mixtape, 2015's Angels with Broken Wings. Following the further success of 2016's With Love, Phora then signed to Warner Bros., which issued his proper debut album, Yours Truly Forever, in 2017. He continued releasing an album per year, and went independent in 2019. The heavily R&B-influenced Lucky Me arrived in 2023. As a youngster, Archer got into some trouble for graffiti, but his work as a tattoo artist proved to be relatively lucrative and aided in the funding of his fledgling rap career. Before turning 21, he had released four recordings independently as Phora: Still a Kid, One Life to Live, Sincerely Yours, and the Nights Like These EP, which was issued with major crowdfunding assistance. Angels with Broken Wings arrived in 2015 and was his first effort to land on the Billboard rap chart, as well as hitting number two on the Heatseekers chart. Exactly one year later, Phora released his rap chart-topping fifth LP, With Love. Yours Truly Forever, his major-label debut and first proper album, was issued in August 2017, and was his first release to make the Billboard 200, reaching the Top 50 of the chart. Several non-album singles preceded his second full-length, Love Is Hell, which arrived in October 2018; the LP peaked in the top half of the Billboard 200 list. In July 2019, after separating from Warner Bros., Phora released the full-length Bury Me with Dead Roses on his indie label, Yours Truly Records. 2020 saw the release of the follow-up to his 2016 mixtape With Love. Titled With Love 2, the album included features from Jhené Aiko, Ty Dolla $ign, Kehlani, DaniLeigh, and Toosii. The self-issued effort reached the Billboard 200. The brief, vulnerable Heartbreak Hotel appeared in 2021, followed by the EP For Those Who Feel Nothing and full-length The Butterfly Effect in 2022. In 2023, Phora released the three-song Growing Pains and Lucky Me, described as his first R&B album.
