Johannes Pramsohler

Johannes Pramsohler is a contemporary violinist and conductor known for his historically informed performance interpretations of unknown and forgotten early music. He has also recorded and produced dozens of albums on Audax Records, which he created in 2013. He was born in the Italian commune of Sterzing in 1980, and in the 2000s he studied with Georg Egger at the Conservatorio Claudio Monteverdi in Bolzano, Reinhard Goebel at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and with Rachel Podger and Jack Glickman at the Guildhall School of Music in London. While a student, Pramsohler also performed with Les Arts Florissants, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and Concerto Köln. He joined the European Union Baroque Orchestra for the 2007 season, and in 2008 he formed Ensemble Diderot. In 2011, Pramsohler won the Bärenreiter Urtext award at the Magdeburg International Telemann Competition, and he began coaching the strings of the French Youth Baroque Orchestra in Paris. His debut recording with the International Baroque Players, Pisendel: Violin Concertos from Dresden, was released in 2012 on the Raumklang label. The pursuit of artistic freedom led Pramsohler to create the Audax Records label in 2013, with the goal of presenting recordings of neglected and forgotten music. He released his second recording, Corelli, Telemann, Leclair, Handel, Albicastro, in 2014 on Audax, and the following year, he appeared on Ensemble Diderot’s premiere recording The Dresden Album. Since then, Pramsohler has recorded dozens of albums on Audax, and he also produced recordings of other artists such as Jadran Duncumb, Nahuel Di Pierro, and Duo Enßle-Lamprecht. He earned the Vincent Meyer Award in 2019 from the Royal Academy of Music, where he completed his PhD in 2022, with a thesis on the early trio sonatas of France and England. His 2023 releases include J. S. Bach: A Musical Offering, Sonate a Quattro, J.G. Goldberg & W.F. Bach: Trio Sonatas, and the video album Enigma - The Canons of the Musical Offering.
