Joey Trap

Born in New York but based in San Diego, rapper Joey Trap (short for "Take Risks and Prosper") has a brash, East Coast-inspired style. On his mixtapes and releases like 2020's Wild West, his swift wordplay and wit call to mind Tyler, The Creator, Travis Scott, and Young Thug. Trap began uploading his self-produced tracks online around 2016. After moving from Spanish Harlem to San Diego at the age of 15, he was just 17 when he began sharing his music, and quickly amassed followers and interest in his inventive, fast-paced lyrical style, which included a series of Sesame Street-themed freestyles. He dropped multiple mixtapes in 2017, including Misadventures of Trap Jack, Free Trap, Trap Jack 2, and still others. The rapper scored a viral hit with his sexually explicit song "I Got Top in Bikini Bottom," which was streamed millions of times within months of its release. Trap founded the music collective Kloud Gang and sometimes performed using the moniker Kloudgod. In 2018, he returned with mixtapes Trapped in TV and Akachi Trap. After Asylum releases such as "Lesley," he started the Young Rich Squad imprint in 2019 and released singles including "Starz" and "Saying Grace." He returned in January 2020 with Wild West, a Western-themed album featuring contributions from Mikey100k.
