Hugo Helmig
Danish vocalist Hugo Helmig was an ebullient performer with a sound that touched upon acoustic balladry, anthemic pop, and electronic dance music. He first emerged in 2017 with the hit "Please Don't Lie."
Born Hugo Helmig Toft Simonsen in Aarhus, Denmark, in 1998, he grew up in a creative family as the son of Danish pop vocalist Thomas Helmig and fashion model Renée Simonsen. Interested in performing from a young age, he was playing guitar and piano by his teens. In 2017, he released his debut single, "Please Don't Lie," which went platinum and landed at number 20 on the Danish pop charts. A second single, "Wild," followed a year later. In 2019, he issued his debut album, Juvenile, which featured his previously released singles plus the song "Young Like This." Hugo Helmig died on November 23, 2022, in Copenhagen at the age of 24.
