Felicity Buirski

This former model, remembered as a ‘page 3 pin-up girl’, started her musical career at the age of 30 in England. Having been editor of a Kent newspaper when she was 18, Buirski took up modelling two years later. Later, in the 70s, she started the arts magazine Avant Garde. She had a musical background with a virtuoso pianist father and a mother who was a concert hall singer. Buirski claims that a chance meeting with Leonard Cohen inspired her to take up the guitar again at the comparatively late age of 26. In 1979, she appeared in the film The Bitch with Joan Collins. Cohen’s influence is apparent on Buirski’s first album, on Run River Records, which was well received by some of the folk media. It also received the award for the best folk album in the Which CD Hi-Fi Music Awards for 1989. Buirski played support to Eric Andersen in 1990 in the USA, but has done relatively little live work in the UK.
