Cyril Cyril

Swiss duo Cyril Cyril play a hypnotic, danceable form of psychedelic rock that takes influence from North African and Middle Eastern musical traditions. Consisting of Cyril Yeterian, who modifies his banjo to resemble a bouzouki or a krar, and percussionist Cyril Bondi, who bangs out rhythms on a self-assembled drum kit, the pair have received acclaim for their energetic performances, as well as playful, poetic full-lengths like 2020's Yallah Mickey Mouse. Both members of Cyril Cyril had been active within the Geneva music scene for well over a decade before they began collaborating. Cyril Yeterian sang and played accordion in the zydeco blues outfit Mama Rosin, founded the eclectic label and record store Bongo Joe, and played in the garage rock/swamp pop supergroup Broadway Lafayette along with Detroit legend Mick Collins. Cyril Bondi has played drums in several jazz and improv ensembles, including Diatribes, Plaistow, and the Insub Meta Orchestra. The two began making music together in 2017, with Yeterian playing modified banjo and guitar, Bondi beating a bass drum outfitted with tropical nut shells and jingle bells, and both singing and playing organ. They released a single titled "Colosse de Rhodes," and Parisian label Born Bad Records signed the duo, co-releasing their debut full-length, Certaine Ruines, with Bongo Joe in 2018. Cyril Cyril toured extensively throughout Europe, and their second album, the more richly produced Yallah Mickey Mouse, arrived in 2020.
