Chouchane Siranossian

France's Chouchane Siranossian is a leading figure in Baroque violin performance and the leader of the Ensemble Esperanza. She also performs traditional violin repertory in a manner influenced by her studies of the Baroque. Siranossian was born in Lyon, France, on July 18, 1984, and grew up in the town of Romans, an hour away. Her father was a noted conductor and a specialist in traditional Armenian music, and she heard the sound of the violin from when she was a very small baby. Siranossian studied with Tibor Varga in Sion, Switzerland, and at 15, entered the Conservatoire in Lyon (CNSM), where her principal teacher was Pavel Vernikov. From 2002 to 2007, she studied at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste with Zakhar Bron, earning a soloist's diploma with highest honors. Siranossian then began her career as concertmaster of the Sinfonieorchester St. Gallen in Switzerland, but after meeting Baroque violinist Reinhard Goebel, she went in a new direction, quitting her St. Gallen post and studying with him at the Salzburg Mozarteum from 2010 to 2013. During this period, she performed with Goebel on Baroque violin, and in 2014, she released her debut album, Time Reflexion, on the Oehms Classics label. The album included both Baroque and modern violin performances. She took over the leadership of Ensemble Esperanza in Liechtenstein, with which she has recorded, and also founded the group Les Racines du Temps. Siranossian has collaborated with a number of leading players in this historical performance field, such as, in addition to Goebel, keyboardist Jos van Immerseel, viola da gamba player Christophe Coin, and fortepianist Kristian Bezuidenhout. She has appeared as a soloist both with major traditional orchestras, including the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, and with historical performances groups, such as Collegium 1704, Les Musiciens du Louvre, and Concerto Köln. Siranossian plays music of all periods, sometimes performing on a modern violin, although she often uses gut strings on the instruments. She is a supporter of contemporary music and has collaborated with major composers, including Daniel Schnyder, Bechara El-Khoury, and Eric Tanguy. Signed to the Alpha label, Siranossian released the Baroque recital L'Ange & Le Diable in 2016 with Jos van Immerseel. She has continued to record for Alpha, releasing material as varied as music by Tartini and Sigmund Romberg. In 2021, she moved to the Claves label for an album of the Symphonies Concertantes of Antoine Reicha. In 2023, she returned to Alpha for the Baroque virtuoso album Duello d'Archi a Venezia, joining Andrea Marcon and the Venice Baroque Orchestra.
