AJ Mitchell

From his beginnings as a social media star, pop singer/songwriter AJ Mitchell made his move into the spotlight in 2018 at the age of 17 with his first effort, Hopeful, a short collection that took cues from the radio-friendly likes of Justin Bieber, Conor Maynard, and Charlie Puth. Over the next few years he offered up a deluge of popular singles including the Ava Max collaboration "Slow Dance" and the 2021 track "Cameras On" from his debut album Skyview. Born in Belleville, Illinois, Mitchell grew up in a family of musicians. Inspired by Bruno Mars, Coldplay, and even Lil Wayne, he was most influenced by his father. Learning piano and songwriting, he later balanced high school athletics with student choir and performances at local coffee shops. Building a following on social media, he amassed over a million followers with his posts of covers of songs by Jon Bellion, Bebe Rexha, and Julia Michaels. Mitchell relocated to Los Angeles in 2016 to pursue music full-time, issuing his debut track, the soaring piano-backed "Used to Be," the next year. He followed with "Girls" and "High Like You," which both landed on his Epic Records debut EP, Hopeful; featuring production by Andy Wells (5 Seconds of Summer, Fall Out Boy), it arrived in summer 2018. Mitchell returned in 2019 with the wistful, largely acoustic single "All My Friends." More singles followed with 2019's "Unstoppable" and 2020's "Burn" and "Spring Break," the latter of which featured Rich the Kid. He closed 2020 with "Blame It on the Mistletoe," a holiday collaboration with Ella Henderson. The following year, Mitchell released the dramatic "Cameras On" and the gold-certified "Slow Dance" with Ava Max. Both tracks appeared on his first official full-length, Skyview, which also featured his earliest hit, "Used to Be." His next era began in 2023 with the sleek, synth-filled dance track "Passionate."
