Ginette Claudette

An unfulfilling spell with Universal Motown was only the start for Ginette Claudette, a contemporary R&B singer and songwriter who has released independent projects such as Tainted Emotions (2014) and All the Way Back (2015), along with numerous singles with an emphasis on yearning ballads. The New York City native follows in the footsteps of her mother, who was a pop vocalist in the Dominican Republic. A performer since early childhood, Claudette attracted label attention through social media with covers uploaded to YouTube. In 2010, a contract was signed with Universal Motown, but the label wanted to push Claudette -- whose inspirations included TLC, SWV, and Aaliyah -- toward pop. No official recordings materialized from the deal, though it led to a long-term affiliation with songwriter and producer August Rigo. Claudette picked up a songwriting credit on Melanie Fiona's 2012 track "Rock Paper Scissors," and gained more ground the following year when she and Rigo worked on Justine Skye's Everyday Living EP. Claudette's debut album, Tainted Emotions, arrived in 2014 on the artist's SummerChild label, and was licensed for release in Japan by Manhattan Recordings. She continued to concentrate on her solo career with the All the Way Back EP in 2015 and returned in 2018 with singles such as "Twisted" and "True."
