Coréalisé par Roger Waters et David Gilmour, The Wall, onzième album studio des Pink Floyd, sort au Royaume-Uni le 30 novembre 1979 chez Harvest et aux États-Unis le 8 décembre 1979 chez Columbia. C'est le dernier album studio du groupe formé de David Gilmour (guitare), Roger Waters (guitare basse et parolier), Richard Wright (claviers) et Nick Mason (batterie). En 1977, Waters — chanteur, bassiste, parolier, compositeur et arrangeur de Pink Floyd —, esquisse sur une feuille de papier le croquis d’un mur séparant public et musiciens. Partant de cette projection, il fait appel à Bob Ezrin (producteur de Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Kiss, etc) pour l'aider à concrétiser son projet. C'est un double album au concept fort qui verra le jour et qui connaîtra un succès massif — plus de trente millions de copies vendues. Réelle introspection de la vie de Waters, l'album mêle fiction et réalité à travers l’histoire de Pink, jeune rock star (qui symbolise en fait Waters lui-même) en proie à ses démons et qui, petit à petit, construit un mur chimérique autour de lui pour se couper du monde. Cet opéra-rock particulièrement ambitieux porte essentiellement la marque émotionnelle de Roger Waters (évocation de son père absent, de sa mère abusive et de la rigidité d'un système scolaire qui l'a traumatisé à vie). The Wall a d'abord été remasterisé en 1994 au Royaume Uni par EMI. Puis en 1997 la firme Columbia remasterise à son tour l'album, avec une qualité de son supérieure à celui d'EMI, pour le publier aux États-Unis, au Canada, en Australie, en Amérique du Sud et au Japon. Un peu après le vingtième anniversaire de l’album, Capitol relance en 2000 aux États-Unis l'édition de 1997 en reprenant le remastering européen, et EMI en fait de même au Canada, en Australie, en Amérique du Sud et au Japon. En 2011, l'album est soigneusement remasterisé par James Guthrie (l'ingénieur du son et co-producteur de la version originale) et Joel Plante, au studio das boot recording situé à Lake Tahoe en Californie. © GG/Qobuz

Coréalisé par Roger Waters et David Gilmour, The Wall, onzième album studio des Pink Floyd, sort au Royaume-Uni le 30 novembre 1979 chez Harvest et aux États-Unis le 8 décembre 1979 chez Columbia. C'est le dernier album studio du groupe formé de David Gilmour (guitare), Roger Waters (guitare basse et parolier), Richard Wright (claviers) et Nick Mason (batterie). En 1977, Waters — chanteur, bassiste, parolier, compositeur et arrangeur de Pink Floyd —, esquisse sur une feuille de papier le croquis d’un mur séparant public et musiciens. Partant de cette projection, il fait appel à Bob Ezrin (producteur de Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Kiss, etc) pour l'aider à concrétiser son projet. C'est un double album au concept fort qui verra le jour et qui connaîtra un succès massif — plus de trente millions de copies vendues. Réelle introspection de la vie de Waters, l'album mêle fiction et réalité à travers l’histoire de Pink, jeune rock star (qui symbolise en fait Waters lui-même) en proie à ses démons et qui, petit à petit, construit un mur chimérique autour de lui pour se couper du monde. Cet opéra-rock particulièrement ambitieux porte essentiellement la marque émotionnelle de Roger Waters (évocation de son père absent, de sa mère abusive et de la rigidité d'un système scolaire qui l'a traumatisé à vie). The Wall a d'abord été remasterisé en 1994 au Royaume Uni par EMI. Puis en 1997 la firme Columbia remasterise à son tour l'album, avec une qualité de son supérieure à celui d'EMI, pour le publier aux États-Unis, au Canada, en Australie, en Amérique du Sud et au Japon. Un peu après le vingtième anniversaire de l’album, Capitol relance en 2000 aux États-Unis l'édition de 1997 en reprenant le remastering européen, et EMI en fait de même au Canada, en Australie, en Amérique du Sud et au Japon. En 2011, l'album est soigneusement remasterisé par James Guthrie (l'ingénieur du son et co-producteur de la version originale) et Joel Plante, au studio das boot recording situé à Lake Tahoe en Californie. © GG/Qobuz
