Garçon perdu ? À première vue, ce titre est un contresens. Le jeune rappeur de Caroline du Nord YBN Cordae, alias Cordae Dunston, a déjà un parcours aux jalons solides. Lancé par son aventure avec le projet YBN, galvanisé par le succès de son single Old Niggas sorti en 2018, médiatisé par son apparition en Une du magazine XXL au mois de juin, il déboule sur le devant de la scène internationale avec son premier disque complet. Son nom ne vous dit toujours rien ? Il a aussi collaboré avec Orelsan pour le titre Tout ce que je sais en 2017. Il a 21 ans et déjà une renommée grandissante, que ce soit dans les cercles rap de la côte Est ou en France.
Les thèmes majeurs de Lost Boy évoquent son parcours fulgurant : quand Cordae revisite son enfance difficile, il n'est pas avare de comparaisons pour démontrer qu’il représente la nouvelle vague de rappeurs : dans We Gon Make It, avec Meek Mill, il annonce « I’m savior of the rap shit, the leader of the renaissance » ; ailleurs, dans Bad Idea, il ironise sur la vie d’étudiant, comme pour mettre en avant tout ce qu’il a accompli : « Uh, ramen noodles on the regular/ Add some seasoning and some hot sauce for a better touch/ Peanut butter, jelly and syrup sandwich, etcetera ».
