Tous les amateurs de musiques de film fréquentant la mythique boutique The Record Album à Brighton savent que Thom Yorke s’approvisionne lui aussi fréquemment dans cette caverne d’Ali Baba tenue par le vénérable George Ginn. Il fallait donc bien qu'un jour le chanteur de Radiohead franchisse le pas et se mette à poser ses notes mélancoliques sur des images. Après avoir tergiversé durant des mois face à l’ampleur de la tâche, il accepte finalement d’écrire la musique de Suspiria, remake du classique du cinéma d’horreur que Dario Argento avait réalisé en 1977. C’est Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name) qui est cette fois-ci derrière la caméra. Quant à Yorke, il a la lourde charge de prendre la relève de Goblin et leur sublime BO krautrock.
Interprétée notamment par le London Contemporary Orchestra and Choir, le flûtiste Pasha Mansurov, et le propre fils de Yorke (Noah) à la batterie, sa musique ensorcelante – parfois agrémentée de bruitages tirés du film – crée un malaise diffus mais instantané chez l’auditeur. Citons le thème principal The Hooks et ses notes de piano évoquant un rythme de pas ralentissant progressivement, ou bien Voiceless Terror et ses synthétiseurs aigus et effrayants, ainsi que Sabbath Incantation et ses chœurs venant se frotter à ces mêmes sonorités électroniques. La BO comprend également quelques chansons originales écrites et interprétées par Thom Yorke. Plus douces et mélancoliques qu’inquiétantes (plus proches de l’esprit de Radiohead, donc), des petites pépites comme Suspirium et Has Ended apportent un certain répit au sein d’une bande-son remplissant parfaitement le cahier des charges de la musique de film d’horreur. © Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz

Tous les amateurs de musiques de film fréquentant la mythique boutique The Record Album à Brighton savent que Thom Yorke s’approvisionne lui aussi fréquemment dans cette caverne d’Ali Baba tenue par le vénérable George Ginn. Il fallait donc bien qu'un jour le chanteur de Radiohead franchisse le pas et se mette à poser ses notes mélancoliques sur des images. Après avoir tergiversé durant des mois face à l’ampleur de la tâche, il accepte finalement d’écrire la musique de Suspiria, remake du classique du cinéma d’horreur que Dario Argento avait réalisé en 1977. C’est Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name) qui est cette fois-ci derrière la caméra. Quant à Yorke, il a la lourde charge de prendre la relève de Goblin et leur sublime BO krautrock.
Interprétée notamment par le London Contemporary Orchestra and Choir, le flûtiste Pasha Mansurov, et le propre fils de Yorke (Noah) à la batterie, sa musique ensorcelante – parfois agrémentée de bruitages tirés du film – crée un malaise diffus mais instantané chez l’auditeur. Citons le thème principal The Hooks et ses notes de piano évoquant un rythme de pas ralentissant progressivement, ou bien Voiceless Terror et ses synthétiseurs aigus et effrayants, ainsi que Sabbath Incantation et ses chœurs venant se frotter à ces mêmes sonorités électroniques. La BO comprend également quelques chansons originales écrites et interprétées par Thom Yorke. Plus douces et mélancoliques qu’inquiétantes (plus proches de l’esprit de Radiohead, donc), des petites pépites comme Suspirium et Has Ended apportent un certain répit au sein d’une bande-son remplissant parfaitement le cahier des charges de la musique de film d’horreur. © Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
