Powerage est un album charnière dans la carrière d’AC/DC : il constitue le dernier opus avant que le groupe de hard rock ne devienne mondialement connu avec Highway to Hell et marque la fin d’une première période pour les Australiens. C’est également le dernier disque du groupe à être produit par le duo George Young/Harry Vanda et le premier sur lequel figure le bassiste Cliff Williams. Bon Scott et Angus Young forment toujours un duo gagnant, le premier se donnant corps et âmes pour délivrer des parties vocales saisissantes et le second maniant la guitare comme personne et immortalisant des riffs et des solos magistraux, comme sur la chanson Riff Raff par exemple.
