Depuis le début des années 2010, la galaxie hip hop américaine s’est copieusement enrichie de jeunes pousses, virtuoses du mic et samouraïs de la punchline. De Danny Brown à Chance The Rapper en passant par Vic Mensa, Bishop Nehru, A$AP Rocky ou bien encore Earl Sweatshirt, pour n’en citer que quelques-uns, le genre impose des voix originales et qui dureront… Schoolboy Q est de cette race de nouveaux terroristes au flow assassin, digne héritier de celui de son idole Nas. Né Quincy Matthew Hanley le 26 octobre 1986 à Wiesbaden (son père, militaire, est alors en poste en Allemagne dans une base américaine), Q avait sorti, en 2011, Setbacks, un premier album en indépendant sous le label TDE (Top Dawg Entertainement). Le rappeur du collectif Black Hippy (Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar) livrait alors quinze titres dévoilant ainsi au grand jour ce flow enfumé et cet univers sombre bien à lui. Le buzz se précise et les fans se ruent sur l’album. Suit Habits & Contradictions qui squatte avec insolence le top des chroniques des blogs américains et français. Qualité des sons, originalité et sincérité des textes font de ce deuxième épisode l’un des albums hip hop incontournables de 2012. L’année suivante, Schoolboy Q suit les pas de Kendrick Lamar et intègre le label Interscope pour publier aujourd’hui Oxymoron, un cran bien au-dessus de ses deux précédentes livraisons. Avec quelques featurings cinq étoiles (Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz, Kurupt, Raekwon ou bien encore Pharrell Williams) et un alliage subtil de saveurs un poil old school et de sons bien actuels, Schoolboy Q fait de cette cuvée 2014, un grand cru à boire au plus vite… Cette Deluxe Edition contient trois titres supplémentaires. © MD/Qobuz
