À propos

On pourrait persifler à volonté : quoi-quoi-quoi, un des chefs-d’œuvre de l’opéra-bouffe offenbachien, enregistré en anglais ? C’est oublier qu’il n’existe pratiquement aucun enregistrement disponible de l’ouvrage, et que dès l’année suivant sa création de 1869, L’Ile de Tulipatan était donné en allemand, à Berlin et à Vienne, deux ans plus tard encore en Angleterre (sous le titre Kissi-Kissi… ne nous demandez pas pourquoi…). Autrement dit, l’on serait bien mal inspiré de railler la sortie de The Island of Tulipatan, chanté en anglais, par la compagnie Light Opera of New York. Et l’on peut aussi se dire que, ainsi joué et chanté (et parlé, puisque les dialogues sont donnés aussi, bien sûr en anglais), on s’approche diablement de ce qui se pouvait faire dans les années 1870 à Londres ou Manchester ou Melbourne, avec un orchestre assez modeste en taille et en qualité, des chanteurs « normaux » (disons : pas wagnériens), mais tous doués d’un enthousiasme franchement communicatif. Quoi qu’il en soit, ils l’on fait, et on attend encore et toujours qu’une compagnie française, y compris d’envergure similaire, nous fasse ainsi profiter des cocasses aventures de Cacatois XXII, Octogène Romboïdal et leurs rejetons transgenre.
