Le retour du Live Santa Monica '72, album longtemps resté dans la confidence des fans et vendeurs pirates avant de connaître une renommée de courte durée lors d'une édition semi-officielle en 1994, avant un retrait quasi immédiat du fait des ayants-droit.
Cette fois, la parution est officielle et ne dément pas sa réputation. Le disque ne comprend rien moins qu'un tracklisting de rêve (qui peut prétendre aligner autant de classiques en un peu plus d'une demi-heure ?), servi par un artiste au sommet de son ascension, épaulé par un groupe soudé et excité de vivre ses premiers rendez-vous avec la gloire dans le Nouveau Continent.
Sans conteste, David Bowie n'a jamais réédité cet exploit sur un disque live : la hargne des titres de Ziggy Stardust et le côté cabaret des titres appropriés (« Andy Warhol » et le « My Death » emprunté à Jacques Brel), Santa Monica '72 déscelle prestemment les David Live (1975) et autre Stage (1978), ne reproduisant que mollement le savoir-faire d'un prodigieux artiste de scène. La remasterisation, impeccable, ajoute le grain de modernité à la légende.

Cette fois, la parution est officielle et ne dément pas sa réputation.
