Au début des années 80, les Violent Femmes inventent une sorte de folk punk assez jouissif, hérité des Modern Lovers de Jonathan Richman. Une musique joliment bancale, énergique et insouciante, qui influencera des tas de groupes ; et pas seulement Gaëtan Roussel et Louise Attaque… À 56 ans, Gordon Gano n’a perdu ni sa vitalité, ni son humour corrosif, ni même son sens du refrain qui tue. La preuve avec ce Hotel Last Resort sur lequel il embarque une fois de plus ses Violent Femmes sur des sentiers certes connus mais toujours aussi charmeurs. Il se paye même le luxe d’inviter sur le single qui donne son titre à l’album, la guitare de Tom Verlaine de Television !
