Haendel écrivit Partenope en 1730 ; il y brosse une peinture de l’humanité décrivant un monde où l’humour, la tristesse, le ridicule, la pitié, le chagrin et la réconciliation jouent chacun leur rôle. L’usage du déguisement, la confusion sur l’identité – et le genre –, la tourmente d’émotions causée par l’amour sous toutes ses formes (naïf, sans espoir, méprisé, trahi, sincère), tout cela crée un drame attachant qui se termine dans la joie d’un double mariage. Selon toute évidence, l’intrigue, les personnages et les situations de Partenope parlaient à l’instinct dramatique de Haendel ; et c’est là l’une de ses meilleures partitions pour la scène, avec une quantité inhabituelle d’airs variés et souvent concis. C’est aussi l’une de ses analyses les plus pénétrantes des rapports entre amis, rivaux et ennemis confrontés aux épreuves de l’amour. Haendel écrivit Partenope en 1730 ; il y brosse une peinture de l’humanité décrivant un monde où l’humour, la tristesse, le ridicule, la pitié, le chagrin et la réconciliation jouent chacun leur rôle. L’usage du déguisement, la confusion sur l’identité – et le genre –, la tourmente d’émotions causée par l’amour sous toutes ses formes (naïf, sans espoir, méprisé, trahi, sincère), tout cela crée un drame attachant qui se termine dans la joie d’un double mariage. Selon toute évidence, l’intrigue, les personnages et les situations de Partenope parlaient à l’instinct dramatique de Haendel ; et c’est là l’une de ses meilleures partitions pour la scène, avec une quantité inhabituelle d’airs variés et souvent concis. C’est aussi l’une de ses analyses les plus pénétrantes des rapports entre amis, rivaux et ennemis confrontés aux épreuves de l’amour. Et toute cette splendeur nous est chantée par un superbe plateau, avec en tête Philippe Jaroussky, Karina Gauvin et John Mark Ainsley, soutenus par l’ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro dont on connaît l’excellence dans ce répertoire. © SM/Qobuz

Berlioz, la Fantastique en 10 versions
