Kery James a toujours aimé la mise en scène de son talent et de ses textes. Avec un titre digne d'un thriller ou d'un western, Dernier MC le voit se poser en ultime survivant de la catégorie des grands Masters of Ceremony. Et c'est bien à cette espèce qu'il appartient, avec un sixième disque qui n'hésite pas à innover avec l'apparition de sonorités dubstep. Là où d'autres ont succombé au rap pop et au rap dance, Kery James préfère s'inspirer d'un courant majeur en Angleterre et encore méconnu en France.
A l'habituel intérêt lexical de Kery James dont les écrits font référence, Dernier MC vient ajouter un intérêt musical parfois absent du rap français. De même, chaque collaboration est ici mûrement réfléchie et apporte à chaque fois un véritable plus au propos de l'auteur. Corneille apporte son chant sur « A l'Horizon » et son appel aux changements. L'incontournable Zaho est l'interprète idéale de « La Vie en rêve » qui décrypte les pièges à jeunes filles. L'apparition de Youssoupha dans « Contre nous » est appelée à faire date, et rappelle qu'un featuring n'est pas qu'une présence de circonstance. Youssoupha prend le titre à bras le micro et pousse Kery James dans ses ultimes retranchements pour un duel de titans.
La version en édition limitée contient une rencontre plus inattendue, avec la présence de Capleton sur « Soldier ». Le bobo jamaïcain fait des étincelles et l'on se dit qu'il faut s'appeler Kery James pour oser côtoyé un tel monstre vocal. Kery James excelle bien sûr également sans autre soutien que celui son inspiration. Du drôle « 94 c'est le Barça » au classique « Constat amer », en passant par le « Dernier MC » d'introduction, Kery James n'a rien perdu de sa superbe. Bien qu'il gonfle les pectoraux, Dernier MC est là pour mettre les points sur les i de la part d'un artiste sûr de sa valeur.
Sentinelle du rap, Kery James se hisse avec Dernier MC sur un promontoire d'où il va être difficile de le déloger. Succéder à Réel (2009) n'était pas une tâche facile, c'est en continuant d'avancer que Kery James y est parvenu avec courage et détermination.
