Deutsche Grammophon a sorti ce coffret de 17 disques en 2010 à l’occasion du 200e anniversaire de la naissance de Chopin, avec des performances des plus grands pianistes du XXe siècle. On y entend le concerto pour piano interprété par Krystian Zimerman avec le Polish Festival Orchestra, Maurizio Pollini dans les études, les polonaises et les scherzos, Vladimir Ashkenazy dans les mazurkas et les valses, Maria-João Pires dans les nocturnes, ainsi que d’autres morceaux joués par Lilya Zilberstein, Claudio Arrau, Yundi Li et Anatol Ugorski. La musique de chambre est exécutée par le Beaux Arts Trio, Martha Argerich avec Mstislav Rostropovich et Lambert Orkis avec Anner Bijlsma. Le chant est assuré par la soprano Elzbieta Szmytka et Martin Martineau. La qualité du son varie légèrement, et les auditeurs y aimeront plus ou moins certaines interprétations, mais les collectionneurs à la recherche d’un coffret complet de Chopin seront loin de faire un mauvais choix en incluant ces enregistrements remarquables dans leurs discothèques.

Descriptif de l'album

Deutsche Grammophon a sorti ce coffret de 17 disques en 2010 à l’occasion du 200e anniversaire de la naissance de Chopin, avec des performances des plus grands pianistes du XXe siècle. On y entend le concerto pour piano interprété par Krystian Zimerman avec le Polish Festival Orchestra, Maurizio Pollini dans les études, les polonaises et les scherzos, Vladimir Ashkenazy dans les mazurkas et les valses, Maria-João Pires dans les nocturnes, ainsi que d’autres morceaux joués par Lilya Zilberstein, Claudio Arrau, Yundi Li et Anatol Ugorski. La musique de chambre est exécutée par le Beaux Arts Trio, Martha Argerich avec Mstislav Rostropovich et Lambert Orkis avec Anner Bijlsma. Le chant est assuré par la soprano Elzbieta Szmytka et Martin Martineau. La qualité du son varie légèrement, et les auditeurs y aimeront plus ou moins certaines interprétations, mais les collectionneurs à la recherche d’un coffret complet de Chopin seront loin de faire un mauvais choix en incluant ces enregistrements remarquables dans leurs discothèques.

Le paradoxe du studio d’Esa-Pekka Salonen

Le Finlandais Esa-Pekka Salonen est un chef d’orchestre acclamé et un compositeur prolifique. Avec plus de 60 disques au compteur, il a fait évoluer l’histoire de l’interprétation. Dialogue avec un musicien exceptionnel qui évoque pour Qobuz son travail en studio et son rapport à l’enregistrement.

Henry Mancini, stylé

Sophistication, humour, sensibilité… Tels sont les mots qu’on accole souvent à la musique d’Henry Mancini. Depuis sa disparition en 1994, il est toujours considéré comme un compositeur pop majeur et influent. Sans doute parce que, à côté des œuvres satinées et légères qui ont fait sa réputation (“Diamants sur canapé”, “La Panthère rose”…), il a su montrer la complexité de son langage à travers des compositions plus tourmentées.

Les aventures de Christopher Hogwood chez L'Oiseau-Lyre

Disparu en 2014 à Cambridge des suites d’une tumeur au cerveau, Christopher Hogwood fut un des principaux acteurs de l’immense lame de fond provoquée par le mouvement historique qui s’est emparé de la musique baroque et classique à la fin du XXe siècle. En créant son propre ensemble, l’Academy of Ancient Music en 1973, il a jeté les bases d’une nouvelle conception de l’interprétation historiquement informée, mettant à bas les traditions poussiéreuses. Chef d’orchestre, claveciniste, écrivain et musicologue anglais, il laisse un abondant catalogue pour le label L'Oiseau-Lyre, qui a accompagné son remarquable travail de défricheur.
