Yonaka

English quartet Yonaka combines heavy riffs, melodic hooks, and on-stage punk furor like the wild spawn of forebears such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs and PVRIS. Fronted by the fiery Theresa Jarvis, the group debuted in the 2010s with their debut EP Heavy, later issuing their debut album, Don't Wait 'Til Tomorrow, in 2019. Incorporating more melodic elements, they released the mixtape Seize the Power in 2021 and followed with their sophomore LP Give Me My Halo in 2023. The Brighton-based band -- comprising vocalist Jarvis, guitarist George Edwards, bassist Alex Crosby, and drummer Robert Mason -- met in college while each member played in different groups. They got together in 2014 and quickly gained a reputation in the U.K. for their formidable live shows. In 2016, they issued their debut single, "Ignorance," followed by "Drongo." The next year they released "Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya" before the arrival of their first EP, Heavy, which featured the single "Bubblegum." In 2019, Yonaka signed with Fueled by Ramen for the release of their debut full-length, Don't Wait 'Til Tomorrow, which included the singles "Bad Company" and "Creature." Riding a wave of European acclaim, they saw their debut rise into the Top 40 and later teamed up with Bring Me the Horizon for the collaboration "Tapes." In 2020, they issued the short EP Yonaka Stripped before a new album era kicked off in 2021 with "Seize the Power" and "Ordinary." Those tracks landed on 2021's Seize the Power, which incorporated more melodic pop and electronic elements and featured appearances by Fever 333 ("Clique") and Barns Courtney ("Anthem"). Jarvis appeared on "Detonate" with esports team G2 and Jeris Johnson in 2023, just as the band released singles "Panic" and "Welcome to My House" from their official sophomore effort Give Me My Halo.
