Nervosa

An uncompromising Brazilian extreme metal group, Nervosa emerged in 2010 and quickly made a name for themselves as a force in the female heavy metal scene and the thrash/death metal scene worldwide. Despite enduring personnel changes over the years -- guitarist/vocalist Prika Amaral is the group's sole constant member -- Nervosa has maintained a loyal following with acclaimed efforts like Victim of Yourself (2014) and Perpetual Chaos (2021). Founded in São Paulo by Prika Amaral (guitar/vocals), Fernanda Terra (drums), and Fernanda Lira (bass/vocals), Nervosa issued a video for its debut single "Masked Betrayer" in 2012, which became an online hit and caught the eyes and ears of Napalm Records. A deal was signed, and the band headed into the studio to record their first long-player with new drummer Pitchu Ferraz, who had replaced Terra in 2013. Released in 2014, Victim of Yourself delivered a raw and aggressive set of classic thrash influenced by bands like Sepultura, Slayer, Testament, and Exodus. 2016's hard-hitting Agony followed suit, and the band supported the LP with high-profile shows alongside contemporaries like Destruction, Grave, Samael, and Artillery. Ferraz left the fold ahead of the arrival of 2018's Downfall of Mankind, which marked the studio debut of new drummer Luana Dametto. Produced by Martin Furia, the album included guest appearances by João Gordo (Ratos de Porão), Rodrigo Oliveira (Korzus), and Michael Gilbert (Flotsam and Jetsam). Dametto and longtime bassist Fernanda Lira left amicably in 2020 to form their own group, the death metal-leaning Crypta. Amaral conscripted vocalist Diva Satanica (Bloodhunter), bassist Mia Wallace (Abbath), and drummer Eleni Nota and began work on Nervosa's fourth full-length effort. Arriving in 2021, the aptly named Perpetual Chaos saw the group deliver a savage set of blistering modern thrash and old-school death metal. After touring to support the album, the group splintered again, leaving Amaral to assemble a new lineup. In 2023, Nervosa released the standalone single "Endless Ambition," which featured Amaral on guitar and lead vocals, second guitarist Helena Kotina, bass player Hel Pyre, and drummer Michaela Naydenova.
