Mikael Simpson

Mikael Simpson is an award-winning Danish singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer who emerged around the turn of the century and was critically acclaimed as well as commercial successful. In terms of style, he draws experimentally from alternative rock as well as downtempo electronica. Born in 1971 in Holstebro, Denmark, he began his career as a singer and guitarist in the indie rock band Luksus (whose members also included singer and pianist Lise Westzynthius, who would likewise advance to solo success). In association with Lidocaine Records, the band made its debut in 1997 with the mini-album Luksus and proceeded to release a couple singles and the full-length album Repertoire (1998), co-written and co-produced by Simpson, before breaking up in 2000. Simpson embarked on a solo career after the breakup of Luksus. He made his album debut in 2002 with Os 2 + Lidt Ro on the Playground Music label. The album found him pushing the alternative rock style of Luksus into the realm of electronica, drawing from his talent as a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist as well as his production talent. Second album De Ti Skud (2004) was a breakout success, reaching the Top 20 of the Danish albums chart and winning Simpson a pair of Steppeulve awards. After the release of a stopgap remix album, B-Sider, Udtag Og Meget Triste Radiomix (2005), Simpson nearly topped the charts with his next album, Stille Og Uroligt (2006), which peaked at number two and won another couple Steppeulve awards. The success continued with the follow-up album Slaar Skaar (2009), which peaked at number three and spawned the Top 20 hit "Inden Du Falder I Søvn."
