Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein's bittersweet, reverb-slicked sound, rooted in seminal twee pop acts like Dolly Mixture and Talulah Gosh, placed them squarely in league with likeminded early-2000s groups like Betty and the Werewolves, the Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and Sexy Kids. Renée Gustafsson, Naemi Pebaque, and Theresa formed the group in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2005, and its debut 7", Stalking Skills, came out via Sweden's Fraction Discs two years later. Drummer Elin Engstrom was welcomed into the fold around that time, and the band spent the next year playing small shows around Europe. Theresa amicably split with Liechtenstein in mid-2008, only months before the group's second 7", Apathy, was released. The lineup change did little to hinder Liechtenstein's momentum; by early 2009, the trio had two new singles out on Slumberland Records and Drill Building. Liechtenstein's debut full-length, Survival Strategies in a Modern World, was released on Fraction Discs and Slumberland in summer of 2009.
