For 32 minutes and 44 seconds, Jon Spencer shreds out some Blues Explosion, Boss Hog, Pussy Galore and Heavy Trash under his own name. In Spencer Sings The Hits!, the white trash James Brown of garage rock unsurprisingly dabbles in dirty rock and punk filled with blues, rockabilly and rhythm’n’blues. As always, by stripping down the genre to its primal scream, Spencer’s work shines with subversion. No illumination or overproduction, just brutal, wild and direct garage music carried by the charismatic voice of Mister Loyal. Spencer dresses in a worn suit and is supported by his two henchmen, Sam Coomes on bass and keyboard and Mike Gard on drums. Just like The Cramps these recordings scream, fuzz, beat and reverb.
